Babacar Bâ, who leads the Forum du justiciable, has once again voiced strong criticism, pointing out what he perceives as a glaring inconsistency in former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s statements regarding the transparency of political funds. In a recent public declaration, the human rights advocate underscored that Sonko, who now champions integrity and sound governance, had himself received over 1.7 billion CFA francs in political funds during his tenure at the Primature—a sum Sonko openly confirmed.
For Babacar Bâ, this situation presents an undeniable irony. The current leader of Pastef had previously been a vocal critic of what he termed the state’s “black funds.” Yet, upon assuming executive responsibilities, he oversaw the management of these very mechanisms he once condemned. The coordinator of the Forum du justiciable has made the issue of political funding a central focus of his advocacy in recent months, repeatedly urging the Presidency, the Primature, and the National Assembly to disclose the amounts received and to submit to oversight by the Cour des comptes.
The president of the FJ characterizes Senegal’s governance as an institutional charade. He issues a fervent call to the Senegalese people, imploring them to awaken, unite, and reclaim control of their destiny, employing a tone that departs from his usual technical analyses of public financial management.
