Paris Saint-Germain recently celebrated their second consecutive UEFA Champions League title, a triumph significantly bolstered by the exceptional form of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia during European nights. Crowned the competition’s best player, the Georgian maestro spearheaded the Parisian squad to victory, having completely transformed PSG since his arrival from Napoli. This monumental impact has led many to declare Kvaratskhelia’s acquisition as simply the greatest winter transfer in football history.
While he didn’t find the net against Arsenal in the final, unlike in previous rounds, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia proved crucial in the UEFA Champions League showpiece. It was his decisive play that earned the penalty, allowing Ousmane Dembélé to level the score for PSG. Recognized as the tournament’s standout performer, the Georgian consistently shone throughout the European campaign. Understandably, within the capital club, there’s no regret over the substantial investment made to secure Kvaratskhelia. In January 2025, 70M€ was spent to bring him from Naples, and since then, the entire complexion of PSG has dramatically shifted.
“a sort of champions league ‘plus factor’”
Approximately eighteen months ago, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joined PSG, and his arrival has undeniably revolutionized the club. Reflecting on this, analyst Dave Appadoo didn’t hesitate to state: « His arrival in January changed everything. You bring in a kind of ‘plus factor’ for the Champions League, someone who physically, mentally, technically, and in terms of effectiveness, possesses something extra in these crucial encounters. I believe it’s the greatest winter transfer in history. »
“never such an impact after a winter transfer”
« I don’t think there has ever been such an immediate impact following a winter transfer. Of course, 70 million is a significant sum, but other clubs have invested heavily in players during the winter window and achieved far less. His influence was instant. And this season, there’s no debate, Kvara is PSG’s best player, » Dave Appadoo further elaborated regarding Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s extraordinary contribution.
