Former Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Lucas Digne is on the brink of completing an unexpected return to the Parc des Princes. The 32-year-old left-back, whose last stint in Ligue 1 was between 2013 and 2016, has reportedly agreed in principle to rejoin the club led by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. Negotiations are underway with his current employer, Aston Villa, as PSG seeks to finalize a deal before the summer transfer window closes.
From Barcelona to Villa Park and back to Paris
Lucas Digne’s football journey has taken him across Europe’s elite clubs. After making his name at Lille OSC, he joined PSG in 2013, where he spent three seasons before moving to FC Barcelona. His stint in Spain was followed by a five-year spell at Everton, culminating in his current role at Aston Villa. Now, the French international appears poised to complete a full-circle transfer back to the capital.
PSG targets Digne as key defensive reinforcement
With a release clause set at €11.7 million, Lucas Digne is close to securing a new contract with PSG. Insiders suggest the club views him as the ideal profile to bolster their left-back position. Known for his technical ability, leadership qualities, and deep affinity for the club, he could arrive just in time for the post-FIFA World Cup 2026 period. The timing aligns perfectly, as he remains a regular starter for the French national team during their current campaign.
What’s next for the transfer?
The final hurdles include agreeing on personal terms and finalizing the financial arrangement with Aston Villa. Both clubs are in advanced discussions, and if no unexpected obstacles arise, Digne could be announced as a PSG player before the international break. His return would not only strengthen the squad but also bring a familiar face back to a club he holds dear.
