The Real Madrid has confirmed the signing of Ivorian winger Yan Diomandé, a 19-year-old talent from RB Leipzig, in a deal worth €140 million including potential bonuses. This acquisition sets a new benchmark for the club, making Diomandé the most expensive signing in Real Madrid’s history and the priciest African player ever transferred.
From Leipzig to Madrid: A record-breaking transfer
The announcement came via an official club statement, which read: “Real Madrid and RB Leipzig have reached an agreement for the transfer of player Yan Diomandé, who will join our squad for the next seven seasons, until 30 June 2033.” While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed, Spanish media outlets have estimated the total cost at €140 million, bonuses included.
Diomandé’s move to Leipzig in the summer of 2025 from Leganés—on the outskirts of Madrid—marked the beginning of his rapid ascent. Last season, he dazzled in the Bundesliga, netting 12 goals and providing 8 assists, earning him the title of best young player of the campaign.
A rising star with international pedigree
Born in Abidjan, the 19-year-old has already made a name for himself on the global stage. His standout performances at the recent FIFA World Cup in North America, coupled with his versatility—capable of playing on either flank—have cemented his status as one of football’s most sought-after talents. Diomandé now joins an elite group of Ivorian internationals, including Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo.
Immediate impact expected at the Santiago Bernabéu
The young winger is the sixth arrival at Real Madrid this summer, following the signings of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella, French defender Ibrahima Konaté, Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries, and Spanish striker Carlos Espi. Under the guidance of returning manager José Mourinho, Diomandé is poised to take up a key role on the right side of the attack, lining up alongside superstars Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Junior.
With his explosive pace, technical skill, and maturity beyond his years, the Ivorian sensation is expected to make an immediate impact at the Santiago Bernabéu, adding depth and creativity to an already formidable squad.
