A sea of supporters and local leaders greeted Ousmane Sonko in Bargny as he launched his party’s membership card sales campaign.
Ousmane Sonko kicked off a weekend tour in Bargny, marking the beginning of a political drive that will take him through Sébikotane, Khombole and Bambey. The Pastef leader left Keur Gorgui to personally rally militants ahead of the party’s crucial membership card campaign.
Bargny welcomes Sonko with massive turnout
The coastal town of Bargny became the first stop of Sonko’s tour, where he was received by an enthusiastic crowd of party members and political figures. Addressing the gathering, the former Prime Minister emphasized the strategic importance of the membership campaign for Pastef’s future electoral prospects.
« This tour is all about motivating our militants to sell membership cards. I shouldn’t even need to speak to them about this,» Sonko told the cheering crowd, urging local leaders to throw their full support behind the initiative.
According to Sonko, the membership drive represents a critical lever for upcoming elections. « These card sales will determine the outcome of future votes,» he declared confidently before the assembled supporters.

Reflecting on the challenges faced by Bargny residents during the previous administration, Sonko paid tribute to their resilience. « I have not forgotten what you endured under Macky Sall’s government. I know about the victims in this community,» he stated, drawing applause from the crowd.

In his address, Sonko acknowledged the obstacles facing his party’s political project, including accountability concerns and political violence. « We still lack the resources to fully realize our ambitions,» he admitted while reaffirming faith in the party’s trajectory since gaining power.
Calling for calm and discipline from militants amid political tensions, Sonko stressed that the membership campaign remains vital for solidifying Pastef’s political foundation. « We’re 80% toward our goal, and the remaining 20% depends on this membership drive,» he concluded, urging continued mobilization without provocation.
