The Côte d’Ivoire solidifies its diplomatic standing by actively participating in the second session of the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) at the United Nations headquarters in New York. Through this strategic engagement, the nation reaffirms its dedication to migration governance rooted in cooperation, human dignity, and sustainable development.
The global gathering focuses on reviewing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakech in 2012, bringing together nations to address worldwide human mobility challenges.
Representing Côte d’Ivoire‘s Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Souleymane Diarrassouba, Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director-General of the National Population Office (ONP), championed the country’s stance during high-level sessions. These discussions centered on sharing experiences and commitments among signatory states of the Global Compact.
Data-driven migration policies shaping Côte d’Ivoire’s approach
Dr. Moustapha highlighted Côte d’Ivoire‘s advancements in key migration management sectors. These include strengthening migration data systems, reducing vulnerabilities, combating discrimination, and fostering international cooperation. A standout initiative is the transformation of the country’s data collection and analysis framework, aimed at providing reliable, up-to-date, and disaggregated information to inform public policies effectively.
This commitment materialized in 2025 with the launch of a comprehensive national migration survey. The initiative underscores the government’s resolve to position Côte d’Ivoire as a leading African example in evidence-based migration governance and statistical excellence.
Prioritizing migrant protection and social inclusion
Beyond statistics, Côte d’Ivoire places significant emphasis on safeguarding migrants’ rights. The country has bolstered integrated support and reintegration mechanisms backed by inclusive social policies. This approach ensures better assistance for migrants while minimizing vulnerability.
Combating discrimination remains a cornerstone of the nation’s strategy. Authorities have intensified awareness campaigns and reinforced institutional frameworks to foster a more inclusive society that upholds human rights.
Advocating for global solidarity in migration challenges
The Ivorian delegation at the forum also championed international cooperation grounded in solidarity and shared responsibility among states. According to Abidjan, addressing migration challenges requires a unified effort among countries of origin, transit, and destination.
By participating in the IMRF, Côte d’Ivoire showcases a forward-thinking migration vision. Rather than viewing human mobility solely as a security or social challenge, the country now recognizes migration as a strategic opportunity for economic, cultural, and human development.
Consistent with its tradition of hospitality and openness, Côte d’Ivoire is committed to advancing migration governance that prioritizes human dignity, cross-border solidarity, and intelligent data utilization. This vision aims to transform migration into a shared prosperity lever for all stakeholders involved.
