The global gathering focuses on reviewing the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakech in 2012, bringing together nations to address worldwide human mobility challenges.
Representing Côte d’Ivoire‘s Minister of Planning and Development, Dr. Souleymane Diarrassouba, Dr. Hinin Moustapha, Director-General of the National Population Office (ONP), championed the country’s stance during high-level sessions. These discussions centered on sharing experiences and commitments among signatory states of the Global Compact.
Data-driven migration policies shaping Côte d’Ivoire’s approach
Dr. Moustapha highlighted Côte d’Ivoire‘s advancements in key migration management sectors. These include strengthening migration data systems, reducing vulnerabilities, combating discrimination, and fostering international cooperation. A standout initiative is the transformation of the country’s data collection and analysis framework, aimed at providing reliable, up-to-date, and disaggregated information to inform public policies effectively.
This commitment materialized in 2025 with the launch of a comprehensive national migration survey. The initiative underscores the government’s resolve to position Côte d’Ivoire as a leading African example in evidence-based migration governance and statistical excellence.
