Chad cracks down on illegal slaughter ring ahead of Tabaski in N’Djamena
Joint authorities dismantled a clandestine slaughter operation in N’Djamena, seizing over 100 sick cattle and 40 sheep destined for Tabaski distribution. The Ministry of Livestock has launched protective measures for public health.
During heightened surveillance ahead of Tabaski, a joint task force comprising the Ministry of Livestock, the Animal Health Police Coordination, and security forces raided a concealed operation in N’Djamena’s Machaga neighborhood. Authorities confiscated over 100 cattle and 40 sheep found in poor health, all slated for Tabaski distribution as alleged charitable donations. Investigations revealed the animals had been acquired through an unidentified international NGO with the complicity of local accomplices.
The following day, Dr. Ousmane Yosko Souhoumi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Livestock and Animal Production, inspected the site personally. After verifying the conditions, he condemned the operation and ordered immediate action: deceased animals are to be incinerated, salvageable livestock placed under veterinary care, and enhanced monitoring deployed to safeguard public health.
