Trevoh Chalobah is edging closer to leaving Chelsea for Serie A this summer, with the race for his signature heating up in Italy. The defender, currently on England duty at the World Cup, has become a top target for both ambitious Como and reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan. Como have already submitted a first offer to secure his services.
Como make official offer for Chalobah
Como have tabled a formal bid for the Chelsea academy graduate. The Serie A outfit, coached by former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, are looking to strengthen after unexpectedly qualifying for the Champions League. Chalobah, who joined Chelsea at age eight and made 47 appearances last season scoring three Premier League goals, is seen as the man to lead their European charge. While the exact fee remains undisclosed, Chelsea are open to offers for the homegrown talent. With a contract until 2028, the Blues hold a strong negotiating position and could use any sale to fund new defensive arrivals.
Inter Milan closely monitoring developments
Inter, fresh from winning the Serie A title, are also tracking Chalobah. They view the versatile centre-back as an ideal addition to their backline. The Nerazzurri, managed by Cristian Chivu, are seeking proven European performers, and Chalobah’s Premier League experience makes him a prime target. If a bidding war erupts, Chelsea could stand to gain significantly from a player developed in their own youth system. For Chalobah, the chance to play in the Champions League is a major draw, especially with Chelsea absent from European competition next season after a disappointing 10th-place finish.
Tuchel’s faith and England duty
Despite his uncertain club future, Chalobah remains highly regarded by England manager Thomas Tuchel. The former Chelsea boss called him up for the World Cup as a late replacement for the injured Tino Livramento, preferring him over Manchester United veteran Harry Maguire. The 26-year-old has yet to feature in England’s opening matches—a 4-2 win over Croatia and a 0-0 draw with Ghana—but his selection underlines Tuchel’s trust. Chalobah currently has just one senior cap.
Chelsea’s wider defensive overhaul
Letting Chalobah go is part of a broader defensive rebuild under new head coach Xabi Alonso. Chelsea are already moving for replacements, with Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix and Como’s Jacobo Ramon on their shortlist. The club has also completed a £51 million deal for Atalanta’s Marco Palestra as they aim to revamp a backline that struggled last season. On the flanks, the search for a new left-back has intensified following Marc Cucurella’s high-profile move to Real Madrid. Leeds United’s Gabriel Gudmundsson is currently in the Blues’ sights as they seek better balance. With Chalobah likely on his way out, the turnover at Stamford Bridge shows no sign of slowing this summer.
