FC Nantes condemns pitch invasion by supporters after Toulouse match

Following the pitch invasion by a group of supporters during Sunday’s abandoned match against Toulouse, FC Nantes has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incidents.
The club, now relegated to Ligue 2, made its stance clear in a Monday afternoon statement on its official website. The Ligue de Football Professionnel has placed the match dossier under review and will deliberate at its meeting on May 27.
« While FC Nantes acknowledges the distress and frustration stemming from a challenging season and sporting relegation, the club’s values, history, and identity cannot be undermined by such acts and behaviors, » the statement read. « Anger and disappointment cannot justify masked individuals storming the pitch at the Stade de la Beaujoire, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and tension. A football stadium must remain a popular, festive, and safe space for everyone. »
Call for unity, calm, and respect
The club extended its gratitude to the « vast majority of supporters » who maintained their composure despite the circumstances, as well as the security teams and authorities who were mobilized throughout the evening. FC Nantes pledged to « fully cooperate with authorities, the LFP, and state services to shed light on the events and establish accountability. » The club concluded by urging « unity, calm, and respect to prepare for the upcoming season under the best possible conditions. »
