France completes diplomatic withdrawal from Burkina Faso

The complete withdrawal of Burkinabe diplomatic staff from France and French diplomats from Burkina Faso has now been finalized, in line with the strategic directives issued by Ouagadougou. This action stems from Captain Ibrahim Traoré‘s government’s unilateral declaration on June 26, which formally severed diplomatic relations with France. The Burkina Faso authorities accused Paris of persistent interference against its sovereign interests and of supporting subversive elements.

Following this declaration, the Burkinabe chargé d’affaires stationed in Paris received a summons from the Quai d’Orsay, France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During this meeting, a reciprocal measure was communicated: all Burkinabe diplomatic personnel were instructed to depart French territory within a seven-day period, a deadline that expired this past Monday evening.
