The Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization and Innovation and the Gabonese Business Federation launched Kimba Connect 2026 on Monday at the Bank of Central African States headquarters in Libreville. This groundbreaking initiative marks Gabon’s first national open innovation challenge, designed to bridge the gap between businesses facing digital transformation hurdles and local startups equipped to deliver tailored digital solutions.
The program operates through a challenge-based approach, inviting companies to submit their specific needs while startups respond with innovative project proposals. The most promising solutions will receive structured support for development and implementation, ensuring real-world impact.
Applications are open until Tuesday, July 14, at midnight, followed by a preselection phase on July 24 and a grand finale scheduled for August 4, 2026. This timeline reflects the program’s commitment to fostering tangible, timely innovation.
Mark Alexandre Doumba, Gabon’s Minister of Digital Economy, emphasized that “true innovation solves real-world problems.” He highlighted how Kimba Connect 2026 will turn corporate challenges into growth opportunities while providing startups with unprecedented market access and visibility.
The initiative aims to:
- Drive open innovation across Gabon’s business ecosystem
- Strengthen collaboration between established enterprises and burgeoning startups
- Accelerate the country’s digital transformation
- Showcase Gabonese talent and foster local expertise
- Enhance the competitiveness of the national economy
By fostering these strategic partnerships, the government seeks to modernize Gabon’s business landscape, support innovative entrepreneurship, and reduce reliance on imported solutions. The program aligns with national efforts to diversify the economy through technology-driven growth.
