Gabon’s president to visit France in july 2026 for key talks

Gabon’s Head of State, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, revealed plans for an official visit to France on July 20, 2026, marking a significant step in the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two nations.

Strengthening Gabon-France diplomatic and economic ties

This upcoming visit follows the resumption of direct dialogue between Libreville and Paris after the completion of Gabon’s political transition. The agenda will prioritize critical areas such as economic cooperation, environmental sustainability, and security challenges, with a particular focus on the preservation of the Congo Basin forests.

Since assuming office in August 2023, President Oligui Nguema has made one prior official trip to France, held from May 27 to 31, 2024. The visit culminated in a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, where both leaders reaffirmed commitments across trade, governance, and environmental protection, emphasizing biodiversity conservation and climate action.

The 2024 visit also featured a high-profile Franco-Gabonese economic forum, attracting around 600 business leaders in Paris, alongside engagements with the Gabonese diaspora. The July 2026 visit will be the second official trip by the Gabonese leader to France.

macron’s visit to Gabon in late 2025

France has reciprocated Gabon’s outreach, with President Macron making two official visits since 2017, most recently in November 2025. During his stay in Libreville, Macron was welcomed at Léon-Mba International Airport by President Oligui Nguema, underscoring the renewed political momentum between the two countries.

The November 2025 meeting aimed to consolidate a balanced partnership, with discussions centered on supporting Gabon’s transition to democratic governance. Key outcomes included agreements on security sector training, the establishment of a natural resource protection academy, and infrastructure upgrades, notably for the Transgabonais railway.

With this next diplomatic engagement scheduled for July 2026, Gabon reaffirms its commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial alliance with France, building on the progress achieved during previous high-level exchanges.
