Spanning an impressive 5,200 square meters, the Mohammed VI Professional Training Center in Bamako stands as a pivotal institution, offering specialized vocational education tailored to meet the dynamic demands of the Malian job market. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to equip young Malians with practical skills, fostering their integration into the nation’s workforce.
Mamary Diarra, the National Director of Tourism, emphasized the profound significance of this initiative, stating, “First and foremost, I wish to acknowledge the exceptional partnership between the Malian and Moroccan states. This generous gift from His Majesty Mohammed VI serves as clear evidence of the strong understanding and enduring friendship shared by our two nations.” He further highlighted the center’s local impact, noting, “This facility will provide training for young Malians right here in Bamako. It is equipped with modern classrooms, simulated restaurants, and model hotel rooms, representing a remarkable asset for the Malian government.”
Once fully operational, this modern infrastructure is poised to welcome approximately 1,000 trainees annually. It will offer comprehensive programs across 21 distinct fields, including 12 specializations within the building and public works (BTP) sector, and 9 dedicated to the thriving industries of tourism, hospitality, and catering.
Mamadou Minkoro Traoré, President of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Crafts of Mali (APCMM), underscored the vital importance of having such a professional training center within the country. He noted that this facility eliminates the need for Malian students to travel abroad for quality education. “In the past, trainees often had to purchase airline tickets to pursue their education in Morocco. Beyond providing high-quality instruction, this institution also significantly reduces the travel and accommodation expenses for these students,” Traoré explained.
Mamadou Traoré, the founder of Balimaya and a haute couture and styling alumnus of Moroccan institutions, highlighted Mali’s pressing need for skilled human capital in critical development sectors. He stated, “The activation of this center could not have come at a more opportune moment. I extend my gratitude to the Moroccan authorities for entrusting this center to Mali. It will enable young Malians to acquire valuable trades, preventing them from seeking uncertain opportunities abroad. This establishment will be instrumental in the fight against youth unemployment.”
During the official handover of this facility to Malian authorities last July, Oumou Sall Seck, the Malian Minister of National Entrepreneurship, Employment, and Vocational Training, emphasized that this initiative directly addresses a strategic imperative for Mali. It aims to enhance skill development and strengthen human capital across sectors crucial for the nation’s sustained economic and social advancement.
