Gagnoa, Côte d’Ivoire – The Ouragahio communal administration recently conducted a comprehensive assessment of its women’s empowerment strategies. This evaluation took place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the town hall courtyard, coinciding with a special Mother’s Day tribute ceremony presided over by Sub-prefect Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane. Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, the mayor of Ouragahio, led the review of these crucial programs.
The initiatives under scrutiny spanned several vital areas, including literacy training and fundamental accounting skills tailored for women entrepreneurs. Significant attention was also given to maternal and child healthcare provisions, alongside efforts to ensure comprehensive maternity and health center coverage across the communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that the core objective is to safeguard mothers’ well-being, enabling them to actively participate in and drive their own empowerment.
In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the ongoing construction of a multi-shop gastronomic center. He noted that this new space is designed to showcase the culinary talents and capabilities of local women, providing them with a platform to generate sustainable income and thrive economically.
Furthermore, empowerment efforts extend to agricultural projects, where women farmers receive essential support through the provision of agricultural workers and labor assistance in their fields.
Dr. Dacoury also detailed the establishment of school canteens in every educational institution, which are sustained by the produce cultivated and transformed by the region’s diligent women farmers. These women, beneficiaries of municipal projects and funding from the Ouragahio town hall, play a crucial role in supplying nourishing meals to students. To further bolster women’s economic ventures, the municipality has also facilitated the setup of new businesses by alleviating tax burdens.
During the gathering, the mayor personally presented gifts to 600 mothers who had convened from Ouragahio’s various neighborhoods and its 11 surrounding villages. The commune’s chief magistrate expressed his satisfaction, stating, “When women unite, it fosters collective reflection, promotes a positive work environment, and, most importantly, enhances overall effectiveness.”
