Strategic collaboration between UNDP and Orange Côte d’Ivoire targets youth digital empowerment
Abidjan — In a move to bridge the digital divide and empower young Ivorians, particularly women, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Orange Côte d’Ivoire have formalized a landmark partnership. The agreement, signed on May 21, 2026, in Abidjan, outlines a shared vision to accelerate digital inclusion, foster youth entrepreneurship, and reduce inequality through innovative digital solutions.
This collaboration will focus on rolling out specialized training programs to strengthen digital literacy, supporting startups and entrepreneurial hubs, and extending digital initiatives to underserved rural communities. Central to these efforts is the Orange Digital Center, a flagship initiative designed to equip young entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The partnership reflects a commitment to sustainable development and aligns with Côte d’Ivoire’s National Development Plan (PND) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By leveraging private-sector expertise and international support, the initiative aims to create equitable opportunities and position Côte d’Ivoire as a key player in the global digital economy.
Speaking on behalf of the UNDP, Resident Representative Blerta Cela emphasized the significance of this alliance, stating, « This partnership marks a pivotal step toward advancing digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship in Côte d’Ivoire. By uniting the strengths of the private sector with international cooperation, we can build a more inclusive and sustainable future. »
Orange Côte d’Ivoire’s Managing Director, Mamadou Bamba, echoed this sentiment, reaffirming the company’s dedication to empowering vulnerable populations through tangible digital opportunities. « We are committed to creating pathways for young people and marginalized communities to participate meaningfully in the digital transformation, » he said.
