UN Security Council condemns deadly terror attacks in Mali
The United Nations Security Council has delivered a strong condemnation of the terrorist attacks that rocked Mali in late April and early May, describing them as deplorable and cowardly acts that pose a grave threat to international peace and security.
In a sharply worded statement, the 15-member body expressed its utmost outrage over attacks that unfolded across multiple regions of Mali on April 25 and again on May 6. These brutal incidents resulted in significant loss of life and injuries among civilians, underscoring the rising menace of terrorism in the Sahel.
Demanding accountability for terror networks
The Security Council emphasized that all perpetrators, financiers, organizers, and supporters of these heinous acts must be held fully accountable under international law. The statement reiterated that terrorism in any form—regardless of motive or location—remains entirely unjustifiable and criminal.
Global commitment to countering terrorism
The Council reaffirmed that member states must intensify efforts to combat terrorism by leveraging all available legal and operational tools, in strict alignment with the UN Charter and other international obligations. This includes dismantling terror networks, cutting off their financing, and disrupting their recruitment efforts.
The international community’s resolve to dismantle these criminal enterprises has never been stronger. The Security Council’s latest stance sends a clear message: no safe haven will be tolerated for those who perpetrate acts of terror.
As the situation in Mali continues to evolve, the Council’s condemnation serves as both a warning and a call to action for nations worldwide to unite against the scourge of terrorism.
