Côte d’Ivoire advances in digital education with training of 75 inspectors
In a significant move toward modernizing its education system, Côte d’Ivoire has concluded a three-day workshop in Yamoussoukro. The event brought together 75 pedagogical inspectors from 25 regional directorates (DRENAET) to enhance their digital skills as part of the Digital Skills Development for Supervisory and Teaching Staff (DCNPEE) project, phase 2.
The training, organized by UNESCO and the Ministry of National Education, Literacy, and Technical Training (MENAET) through the Directorate of Technologies and Information Systems (DTSI), took place from May 4 to 6, 2026.
Building digital-ready educators for Côte d’Ivoire’s classrooms
This initiative builds on the success of phase 1 of the DCNPEE project, which trained 43 inspectors in 2024. Now, with 75 more professionals equipped with digital tools, Côte d’Ivoire is taking a major step toward nationwide digital education coverage.
The training focused on empowering inspectors in Mathematics, Life and Earth Sciences (SVT), and Physics and Chemistry to integrate digital tools into their teaching and supervision practices. Participants learned to create interactive lesson content, design engaging presentations, and leverage artificial intelligence to enhance classroom learning.
From digital tools to classroom transformation
The workshop emphasized practical application, ensuring inspectors can immediately apply their new skills in schools across Côte d’Ivoire. UNESCO and DTSI officials highlighted the inspectors’ critical role as digital transformation ambassadors, bridging the gap between technology and classroom instruction.
Participants praised the relevance of the modules, noting their direct applicability to current educational challenges. The training aligns with the National Digital Education Strategy (SNDECI 2024–2028), which aims to create a modern, inclusive, and high-performing school system.
A roadmap for digital education in West Africa
The DCNPEE 2 project, funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), represents a long-term commitment to transforming Côte d’Ivoire’s education sector. With this training, inspectors are now better prepared to support teachers in adopting digital tools, ensuring that students benefit from a more interactive and dynamic learning environment.
Next steps include strengthening the digital capacities of school IT managers, further advancing the goal of a digitally empowered education system across the country.
Why this matters for Côte d’Ivoire
- Nationwide impact: The training covers 25 regional directorates, ensuring broad representation and equitable digital education access.
- Teacher empowerment: Inspectors will share their knowledge with teachers, creating a ripple effect of digital adoption in classrooms.
- Alignment with national goals: The initiative supports the SNDECI 2024–2028 strategy, positioning Côte d’Ivoire as a leader in digital education in West Africa.
