The opposition political entity, « Les Démocrates », formally conveyed its republican felicitations on April 14, 2026, to the newly elected duo of Romuald Wadagni and Mariam Chabi Talata, following their victory at the helm of Benin. In its official communication, this political group, which stands in opposition to President Patrice Talon’s administration, also articulated specific recommendations for the incoming government prior to its assumption of duties.
« Les Démocrates » extended their congratulations to the Wadagni-Talata pairing for their electoral success in leading Benin. Through a communiqué issued on April 14, 2026, the opposition formation, critical of President Patrice Talon’s current regime, addressed its commendations to the president-elect and his running mate.
“The provisional results, as declared by the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA), clearly position your DUO as the overwhelming victor in the presidential election held on April 12, 2026. The ‘Les Démocrates’ party, despite its exclusion from this electoral framework, acknowledges these outcomes and offers its republican congratulations for your election to the supreme office of our nation,” the message stated.
The political organization, currently under the stewardship of President Atchadé, put forth a series of earnest wishes for the new inhabitant of the Palais de la Marina.
“Consistent with our deep commitment to democratic principles and peace, we express our profound hope that your tenure will be defined by national unity, social equity, the restoration of an inclusive democratic process, and an unwavering adherence to fundamental liberties. This aspiration particularly includes the liberation of political detainees, the safe return of political exiles, genuine political dialogue, development initiatives centered on human dignity and social progress, and the full restoration of individual freedoms,” urged the « Les Démocrates » party.
Finally, the party communicated its readiness to engage in constructive dialogue and to propose pertinent alternative solutions whenever such contributions are deemed necessary.
