Already assured of a spot in the upcoming Champions League, Manchester United solidified their 3rd position in the Premier League standings. They delivered another thrilling offensive display at Old Trafford this Sunday, overcoming Nottingham Forest with a 3-2 victory on matchday 37.

Manchester United continued their impressive late-season form. Facing a Nottingham Forest side that had already secured their Premier League status but was still reeling from a Europa League semi-final exit against Aston Villa (1-0, 0-4), the Red Devils quickly established control, largely thanks to Luke Shaw.

The England international, with 34 caps, found the back of the net for the first time in nearly three years, scoring in the 4th minute with a magnificent low half-volley from just outside the box. Michael Carrick’s squad dominated possession and created numerous chances, yet they failed to extend their lead before halftime, despite several golden opportunities falling to Bryan Mbeumo.

Despite the run of play, Nottingham managed to draw level shortly after the break. From a cleverly worked short corner, Morato capitalized on some slack defending to head in the equalizer in the 53rd minute. However, Manchester United responded almost instantly with a highly contentious goal. Following a lengthy VAR review that ultimately deemed Bryan Mbeumo’s apparent handball in the box permissible, Cunha swiftly restored the lead for the Mancunians in the 55th minute.

Bruno Fernandes matches Henry and De Bruyne’s Premier League record

Bryan Mbeumo, who had been heavily involved but lacked precision for much of the game, finally found his reward in the 76th minute, converting a powerful cross from Bruno Fernandes right in front of goal. This marked the Portuguese midfielder’s 20th assist of the season, a remarkable achievement that sees him equal the Premier League’s all-time record held by legends Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Nottingham kept the tension high when Gibbs-White scored just two minutes later (78th minute), but United successfully defended their narrow lead until the final whistle, concluding a truly vibrant encounter.

Bruno Fernandes will have one final opportunity to surpass the single-season assist record when the Mancunians travel to face Brighton next Sunday. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest will look to secure a home victory against Bournemouth, a team battling for a strong league finish.
