Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, commenced a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad on Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, the minister’s agenda focuses on exploring strategies to implement joint infrastructure initiatives, particularly the vital Trans-Saharan Road project.
This significant visit directly follows directives from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent state visit by the Chadian President to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to fostering tangible and practical bilateral cooperation, aimed at accelerating development across both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), landed on Wednesday evening at Hassan Djamous International Airport in N’Djamena. They received a warm reception from Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, alongside other prominent Chadian officials.
The Algerian delegation comprises over 14 seasoned experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, continuing the specialized assessments initiated during their previous trip. Key figures within the delegation include the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Company for Public Works (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector stands as a crucial pillar in the cooperation between Algeria and Chad, serving as a primary driver for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong commitment to the Trans-Saharan Road project, recognizing its role as a strategic artery that will enduringly link the economies of both nations and the wider region. Consequently, this visit specifically aims to ensure the concrete realization of two pivotal sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which are indispensable segments of this continental thoroughfare.
Leveraging the extensive expertise garnered by its national enterprises in constructing major road infrastructure, particularly across challenging Saharan terrains, Algeria is dedicating its technical prowess to this ambitious project. This commitment seeks to catalyze a significant transformation and invigorate regional trade and connectivity.
