Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam stands firm with Ousmane Sonko amid political storms
As the newly appointed leader of Senegal’s shipping council, Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam has openly declared her unwavering loyalty to opposition figure Ousmane Sonko, deepening political divides in an already volatile climate.
In a bold move, Ndeye Rokhaya Thiam, Director-General of the Senegalese Shippers Council (COSEC), has publicly reaffirmed her allegiance to Ousmane Sonko, a move that comes at a time of escalating political tensions between the Pastef leader and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
Appointed to lead COSEC in May 2024 following the departure of Abdoulaye Diop, Thiam’s stance has drawn attention amid growing scrutiny over institutional leaders’ positions in Senegal’s shifting political landscape.
In a social media post that quickly went viral, Thiam shared a piece of advice she received before her appointment. A trusted confidant reportedly urged her to remain steadfast in her support for Ousmane Sonko, regardless of future political developments.
“Politics is unpredictable. Circumstances can change—even lead to fractures. When that happens, ensure you’re Ousmane’s most loyal ally. He’ll always turn to you,” she quoted the advisor as saying.
Concluding with a message that sparked immediate debate, she declared: “Dear brother, you’ll know who you are. And yes, Ousmane will see me.”
Her public endorsement arrives during a period of intense speculation about the loyalties of key figures within the ruling coalition, where alliances are being tested daily.
