Bénin: advanced security training commences at national police academy


The National Superior Police School in Porto-Novo, Bénin, recently inaugurated a series of advanced preparatory courses on Wednesday, May 14, 2026. These crucial programs are designed for aspiring leaders seeking the Higher Diploma in Security Studies (Bess), the Staff Diploma for Security Forces (Demes), and the Special Staff Diploma for Security Forces, marking a significant step in enhancing Bénin’s security capabilities.

This formal launch signifies a pivotal moment for strengthening the operational readiness of Bénin’s internal security forces. The event, held under the distinguished patronage of Inspector General of Police (2nd Class) Kokou Brice Allowanou, the Director General of the Republican Police, drew a diverse assembly of prominent individuals. Attendees included high-ranking military officials, political and administrative leaders, senior executives from the Republican Police, and esteemed academics, all underscoring the importance of this strategic initiative.

Police Divisional Commissioner Gilles Yekpe, who serves as the Director of the National Superior Police School, outlined the ambitious goals of these courses. He emphasized their role in equipping trainees for significant leadership positions within the security sector, urging participants to cultivate a forward-thinking perspective on national, sub-regional, and international security challenges.
« For this particular session, the National Superior Police School has brought together highly qualified instructors, experienced national and international speakers, and a dedicated pedagogical support team committed to your success. The curriculum will delve into critical areas such as police strategy, human and operational resource management, command principles, and both internal and cross-border security issues », Commissioner Yekpe stated.

Inspector General of Police Kokou Brice Allowanou underscored the demanding nature of these continuous training programs and the high expectations placed upon these future senior security force executives. « These courses represent an invaluable opportunity to enhance your professional competencies, cultivate your leadership acumen, and prepare you for the advanced responsibilities that lie ahead », he declared. He further exhorted the trainees to approach their studies with unwavering rigor, discipline, and commitment.


The ceremony concluded with a compelling inaugural conference, presented by the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences at the University of Parakou. The insightful discussion focused on the pertinent theme: « Rule of Law, Republican Police, and Contemporary Security Challenges ».

Through the introduction of these advanced training programs, the National Superior Police School aims to significantly bolster the professionalization of the Republican Police. It seeks to cultivate a highly skilled security elite, well-prepared to address the complex challenges of the modern era.
