The Burkina Faso women’s national football team concluded a fresh set of friendly matches ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). After a scoreless draw in their previous clash, the Stallions and the Eagles locked horns once more on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou, ending in a 2-2 stalemate.
The Malian side struck first, with Fatoumata Diarra putting the Eagles ahead in the 10th minute. The Stallions responded with composure, dominating possession and testing Mali’s defense. A rebound off the crossbar fell to Déborah Guira, who slotted home the equalizer (1-1) just before halftime.
Burkina Faso’s technical prowess shone through in the second half. Judicaëlle Ouoba unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, leaving Mali’s goalkeeper without a chance. The Stallions took the lead (2-1) before the whistle blew for the break.
Mali claws back in final minutes
In the second half, the Stallions controlled the midfield, while Mali pushed forward but struggled to break through Burkina Faso’s sturdy defensive line. A late penalty, converted by Aissata Traoré, restored parity (2-2), sealing the draw that mirrored their first encounter.
These back-to-back friendlies serve as vital preparation for the 2026 Women’s CAN, set to unfold in Morocco from July 25 to August 16. Burkina Faso will face Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, and South Africa in Group A, while Mali shares Group B with Ghana, Cape Verde, and Cameroon.
