Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, personally observed the significant effectiveness of the new electronic traffic ticketing system, known as e-verbalisation, merely twelve hours following its official rollout.
The advanced system, designed to automatically detect violations of the highway code, became operational at midnight on August 1, 2026. By midday, Minister Sana was at the Video Protection Supervision Center, monitoring the real-time processing of infractions, accompanied by Zakaria Hebie, the Director General of Transmissions and Information Technology.
Minister Sana extended commendations to the technical teams for their exceptional professionalism, emphasizing their vital contribution to deploying this innovative solution. Within its first twelve hours of operation, a staggering 1,099 traffic violations were logged. These included common infractions such as failing to wear a seatbelt, disregarding traffic lights, exceeding speed limits, and using a mobile phone while driving. Notably, five offenders had already settled their fines through the dedicated FASO ARZEKA platform, a testament to the system’s immediate impact.
Mahamadou Sana reiterated that these initial results unequivocally demonstrate the operational readiness of the e-verbalisation initiative. They also underscore the Burkina government’s unwavering commitment to leveraging digital technologies to significantly enhance road safety across the nation. The Ministry further advises all motorists that adhering strictly to the Highway Code remains the most effective way to avoid penalties and ensure a safer commuting experience for everyone.
