Cameroon gears up for 51st francophonie parliamentary assembly in Yaoundé

Following the 14th World Trade Organization ministerial conference and the visit of Pope Leo XIV, Cameroon is set to host another major international gathering this year. The 51st General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF) will take place in Yaoundé from 7 to 12 July 2026.

In preparation, Cameroon’s ambassador to France, André-Magnus Ekoumou, met with the president of the National Assembly, Théodore Datouo. Their discussions focused on the country’s readiness for the event.

Both officials expressed confidence in Cameroon’s ability to meet the challenge, in line with the directives of President Paul Biya.

At the Cameroonian embassy in France, special measures have been put in place to facilitate the issuance of courtesy visas to all expected delegations.

During the meeting, the National Assembly president stressed the importance of strengthening parliamentary democracy and commended the diplomat for his support of Cameroonians living in France, particularly regarding their participation in the Promote 2026 business forum at the Yaoundé Conference Centre.

The talks also covered ongoing plans to create a parliamentary museum at the National Assembly. The lower house president expressed a desire to draw on French expertise, including the sharing of best practices and experience, while emphasising the digitalisation of the future museum.

A key issue at the session will be the election of a new secretary general of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda as the main candidates from Africa.
