Norwegian manager Kjetil Knutsen arrived at the KVDO Arena in Ostend on Monday with a clear mission: to dictate the pace of the crucial Champions League qualifier against Union Saint-Gilloise. Standing in a nearly empty press room, he outlined his tactical approach for the upcoming clash.
«This is a physically strong and direct team,» Knutsen observed, acknowledging the challenge ahead. «We’ve studied their strengths and weaknesses closely, but we also have our own identity to uphold. Our strategy is built on control from the start. We always play offensively, whether at home or away, and we won’t settle for just defending for 95 minutes.»
From Europa League stalemate to new ambitions

«They still have a few players from back then, but their system has grown more refined,» he explained. «They bring in talent, develop them, and sell at a profit—just like we do. Though neither of us is among Europe’s giants, both clubs have made significant progress. In Belgium, they now stand as one of the top two teams alongside Club Bruges, and they’re doing outstanding work.»
