Chad and the bahamas forge diplomatic ties

The Republic of Chad and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas have formally initiated diplomatic relations, marked by the signing of a collaborative communiqué in New York, Chadian officials confirmed.

This pivotal agreement was executed on July 16, with Mouctar Abakar, Chad’s permanent representative to the United Nations, and Stan James, his Bahamian counterpart, affixing their signatures.

The communiqué outlines a mutual commitment from both nations to foster enhanced cooperation and friendship. This partnership will be founded on principles of sovereign equality, reciprocal respect for national sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and non-interference in each other’s domestic affairs.

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, an island nation situated in the Caribbean, boasts a population of around 420,000 residents. It gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1973. The Bahamian economy thrives primarily on tourism and a robust financial services sector. Renowned globally as a significant offshore financial hub, the country is frequently characterized as a tax haven, owing to its favorable tax policies and the prominence of its international finance industry.

This official establishment of diplomatic ties aligns with N’Djamena’s strategic objective to broaden and fortify its international alliances across the global community.
