On May 26, 2026, the two prominent Chadian magistrate unions, the Syndicat des Magistrats du Tchad (SMT) and the Syndicat Autonome des Magistrats du Tchad (SYAMAT), convened an extraordinary general assembly at the Palace of Justice in N’Djamena. During this crucial gathering, union members were tasked with overseeing the implementation of the assembly’s resolutions over a ten-day period.

Later that same day, the Prime Minister held a meeting with representatives from both unions. The Minister of Justice and Human Rights, along with the First President of the Supreme Court, were also present. During this significant encounter, the Prime Minister offered an apology on behalf of the government, emphasizing the critical need to bolster cohesion among state institutions.

Continuing the dialogue, the union representatives met with the Minister of Justice and Human Rights on May 27, 2026. Subsequently, they held a joint session with the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, again with the First President of the Supreme Court in attendance. These successive discussions were meticulously designed to forge a consensual and peaceful resolution to the underlying issues.

During the latter meeting, the Minister of Public Security formally reiterated his apologies to the magistrates. The unions acknowledged these expressions of regret and commended the sincere efforts towards dialogue and peace initiated by the officials involved.
