Côte d’Ivoire’s FIMEC 2026 to align skills with economic needs
Abidjan — The second edition of the International Forum on Trades and Competencies (FIMEC) kicks off in Abidjan on July 15-16, 2026, under the patronage of Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé. The event, centered on professional training as a catalyst for employment, competitiveness, and sustainable growth, reflects Côte d’Ivoire’s strategic vision for economic transformation.
The forum is organized by the National Agency for Professional Training (AGEFOP), operating under the Ministry of Employment, Social Protection, and Vocational Training. Its guiding theme, “Skills, Employment, and Economic Transformation in Africa: The Strategic Role of Vocational Training,” underscores the urgency of aligning workforce capabilities with market demands.
The timing of FIMEC 2026 is significant. The recent integration of vocational training into the broader portfolio of the Ministry of Employment signals a government-wide commitment to unified policies that merge skill development, decent employment, and worker protection. This reform aligns with the nation’s broader development agenda, as outlined in the 2026-2030 National Development Plan (PND), which positions human capital as a cornerstone of structural economic change.
The initiative is championed by President Alassane Ouattara and led by the Minister of Employment, Social Protection, and Vocational Training, Adama Kamara. Their focus is clear: transforming Côte d’Ivoire into a hub of skilled labor, where education systems directly support economic priorities.
With over $80 billion in funding pledged by technical and financial partners to support the PND’s implementation, the stakes are high. The success of these investments hinges on the country’s ability to cultivate a workforce equipped for modern challenges—digital transformation, green economies, and evolving industry demands.
Key discussions and activities at FIMEC 2026
The two-day forum will convene policymakers, diplomats, global development partners, business leaders, academics, and vocational training experts. Sessions will include:

Real-life success stories of individuals who have leveraged vocational programs will be highlighted to inspire broader participation.
A vision for inclusive growth
FIMEC 2026 is more than a conference—it’s a movement toward a future where education and economic ambition walk hand in hand. By prioritizing vocational training, Côte d’Ivoire is taking bold steps to reduce unemployment, empower youth, and build a resilient workforce ready for the challenges of tomorrow.
