In Kinshasa, the C64 coalition has outright rejected President Félix Tshisekedi’s proposed national dialogue, labeling it a mere distraction from the pressing challenges faced by Congolese citizens. The opposition firmly asserts that the current administration is offering ineffective strategies instead of genuinely inclusive national discussions.

Following five hours of intense deliberation, Martin Fayulu articulated the coalition’s unified stance: “The populace is not deceived. These repeated consultations initiated by Félix Tshisekedi fail to address the critical urgency of ongoing conflict, pervasive insecurity, the health crisis, or the widespread social hardship afflicting Congolese people. They are designed to divert the nation’s attention from its true priorities.”

Opposition leaders contend that President Tshisekedi is “cynically focused” on extending his tenure beyond his second term, which concludes in 2028. They assert, “The government is laying the groundwork for an extension, leveraging the conflict and suffering in the eastern regions of the country as a means to achieve this. The C64 stands in firm opposition to Félix Tshisekedi’s ambitions, believing he is prepared to solidify the balkanization of the nation, even beyond the 754 days remaining in his current mandate.”

In response to what it perceives as a dangerous political deviation, the C64 intends to mobilize the populace. The coalition has reiterated its call for a significant national march on September 15th, aiming to express strong opposition to the ruling party’s political maneuvers.
