The first group of three Sénégal fans who were being held in Morocco after the events of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) reached Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) in Diass this Thursday. Abdoulaye Dieng, Ibrahima Diop, and Aziz Wade touched down at 6:25 PM on a Royal Air Maroc flight, where they were greeted by a massive and enthusiastic crowd.
These three individuals were among 18 fans arrested during the final match between Sénégal and Morocco. They had been sentenced by the Rabat Court of Appeal for acts categorized as “hooliganism,” which included disturbing public order, throwing objects, damaging stadium infrastructure, and committing violence against security personnel.
Having served their full three-month prison terms, they were granted their freedom on April 18. As for the other 15 supporters still in Morocco, their sentences—upheld on appeal—vary between six months and one year of incarceration. Their return to Sénégal will take place in stages as their respective sentences come to an end.
