Gabon and Madagascar deepen bilateral ties during high-level visit

Colonel Michaël Randrianirina, Madagascar’s transitional leader, arrived in Libreville last Friday for a series of strategic discussions with Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Transition.

The visit, part of a 48-hour working and goodwill trip, underscored Gabon and Madagascar’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. During the official meeting at the Palais Rénovation, both leaders explored ways to deepen cooperation and discussed Madagascar’s ongoing institutional rebuilding process.

Highlighting Gabon’s own transition experience, Professor Guy Rossatanga-Rignault delivered a detailed presentation on the key milestones of Gabon’s constitutional return and the guiding principles behind its transition. President Oligui Nguema reiterated Gabon’s willingness to support Madagascar in restoring democratic governance.

In response, Colonel Randrianirina emphasized his intention to draw lessons from Gabon’s approach to leadership and institutional stability. The two heads of state concluded their talks by praising the strong and historic ties between their nations.

This diplomatic engagement comes nearly two years after Madagascar’s leadership change, which followed nationwide protests led by young citizens demanding urgent solutions to severe water and electricity shortages under former President Andry Rajoelina’s administration.
