That decision made my departure seamless. From the start, I chose the Republic over partisan interests, » he emphasized.
In stark contrast, Lansana Gagny Sakho accused Ousmane Sonko of never truly embracing the Republic. He criticized the opposition leader for deepening divisions at the highest levels of government through public statements, particularly after a controversial remark made while President Faye was abroad on an official trip to the United States and China. According to Sakho, Sonko’s comments about a lack of authority in the country severely embarrassed the head of state.
For the former ally of Pastef’s leader, political responsibility means safeguarding state institutions and strengthening their efficiency. While acknowledging that challenges arose « on both sides, » he pointed to tangible progress, especially in the justice sector. He also addressed recent changes at the Ministry of Justice, recalling that former Minister Ousmane Diagne had declared before Parliament that no one could manipulate him. Sakho argued that his replacement was an attempt to install a more compliant figure who could influence the judiciary. « They underestimated the judiciary, which is anything but a puppet, » he declared, stressing that the realities of power are often misjudged from the opposition benches.
