This significant stop in Lomé, aimed at bolstering bilateral cooperation, is a continuation of President Wadagni’s broader sub-regional tour. The Béninois leader, succeeding Patrice Talon, has already visited Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso, underscoring his administration’s commitment to fostering strong neighborly relations across West Africa.
On Wednesday in Togo, President Romuald Wadagni engaged in discussions with Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, President of the Togolese Republic Council, focusing on strengthening the ties between their nations, promoting regional integration, and enhancing security coordination.
This particular visit forms part of a series of diplomatic initiatives undertaken by Bénin’s new head of state since assuming his high office. Prior to arriving in Lomé, President Wadagni’s itinerary included stops in Nigeria, Niger, and Burkina Faso, clearly demonstrating his administration’s strategic focus on nurturing strong neighborly bonds and deepening regional cooperation throughout West Africa.
A joint statement released following the meeting indicated that both leaders reiterated their firm resolve to deepen the long-standing bonds of fraternity, solidarity, and cooperation between Bénin and Togo. They emphasized the crucial role of continuous political dialogue in solidifying peace, stability, and mutual trust between their countries.

Concluding his visit, President Romuald Wadagni extended an official invitation to President Faure Gnassingbé for a reciprocal visit to Bénin. The invitation was graciously accepted, with the logistical details and timing to be arranged through diplomatic channels.
