During a high-level diplomatic engagement, General Mohammed Berrid, Morocco’s Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, paid an official visit to Nouakchott this week. The visit underscored the deepening military collaboration between Morocco and Mauritania.
On the first day of his trip, General Berrid was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani at the Presidential Palace. The meeting took place in the presence of Ambassador Hamid Chabar, Morocco’s envoy to Mauritania, as confirmed by an official statement from the Royal Armed Forces General Staff.
The following day, the Moroccan delegation visited the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where General Berrid held discussions with Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a symbolic gesture of appreciation, the Mauritanian Defense Minister presented General Berrid with the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, on behalf of the Mauritanian President.
Later, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the 6th Joint Military Commission. The session highlighted the robust defense partnership between the two nations, with both sides praising the tangible outcomes of their joint efforts. Leaders emphasized that this cooperation serves as a benchmark for strategic alliances in the region.
