N’Djamena’s mayor inspected the vital Hilton discharge site, coordinating essential repairs to bolster the city’s flood prevention efforts.
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Mayor of N’Djamena, M. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, led a significant delegation to inspect the Hilton discharge site. This crucial visit underscores the city’s proactive approach to flood prevention as the rainy season approaches.
During the inspection, M. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning for the central municipality, highlighted the strategic importance of the Hilton discharge facility for N’Djamena. He explained that this essential infrastructure is designed to efficiently channel rainwater into the river, acting as a critical safeguard. Furthermore, it possesses the capability to redirect water away from the city in instances of severe riverine flooding.
Currently, the structure has sustained minor damage, specifically to its protective flap, which is vital for defending against river overflows. Despite this, assurances were given that various preparatory activities are already in motion to mitigate risks associated with the upcoming wet season.
Following his on-site assessment, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued unequivocal directives to the road department. He emphasized the necessity of implementing all requisite measures to ensure the damaged flap is repaired promptly within the coming days, reinforcing the city’s commitment to robust flood prevention.
