In a decisive move to restore order on N’Djamena’s streets, the municipal authorities of the 7th district have initiated a sweeping operation to reclaim public roadways. The campaign, which commenced this Monday, targets the chaotic encroachment of informal structures and uncontrolled livestock that have long impeded traffic flow across the capital.
Under the leadership of Adoum Hassan Djimet, Mayor of the 7th district, the initiative focuses on removing unauthorized installations, dismantling street vendors’ stalls that spill onto the pavement, and securing loose animals that frequently disrupt vehicular movement. The mayor emphasized the critical nature of this intervention, citing frequent traffic jams and hazardous road conditions as direct consequences of these unregulated encroachments.
Adoum Hassan Djimet issued a stern warning to residents, urging collective responsibility for maintaining public order. « Roads must breathe freely. I call on every citizen in the 7th district to embrace this change. Every day, lives are lost because of blocked roads and reckless road use. We cannot afford to remain indifferent, » he stated during the launch of the operation.
The mayor made it clear that defiance of the new measures will not be tolerated. « Individuals who persist in occupying public roads will face immediate legal consequences. Their goods will be confiscated, and animals found wandering will be impounded, » he declared. The administration has also mobilized municipal teams to ensure strict enforcement across the district.
This operation follows a series of municipal efforts aimed at enhancing urban livability and reducing accident rates in N’Djamena’s most densely populated areas.
