Sénégal appoints economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as prime minister after Ousmane Sonko’s dismissal

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed economist Ahmadou Al Aminou Lô as the country’s new prime minister, following a presidential decree broadcast on national television on May 25, 2026.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Lô served as Secretary-General in the first administration formed by President Faye, who assumed office in April 2024. He later transitioned into a ministerial role within the government.
The decision comes just four days after the dismissal of former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, amid escalating tensions between the two top officials in the West African nation.
