N’Djamena’s extensive anti-crime sweep nets 252 arrests
A major security operation in N’Djamena led to the apprehension of 252 individuals and the confiscation of illicit substances, significantly bolstering efforts against crime in the Chadian capital.
A joint security task force launched a major sweep on Saturday, August 1, 2026, targeting various high-crime areas across N’Djamena. This extensive operation, involving multiple law enforcement and security units including the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the Gendarmerie nationale, the Police nationale, the Police judiciaire, and specialized services, resulted in the apprehension of 252 individuals and the seizure of numerous illicit items and substances.
Targeted neighborhoods in the capital
The operation strategically focused on specific sectors known for criminal activities. These included Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other vulnerable neighborhoods throughout the capital.
According to Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, the intervention led to the arrest of individuals involved in the sale and consumption of various narcotics. Among the confiscated items were drugs commonly known as “Colorado” and “Bongo,” alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.
Leadership and successful outcomes
The mission was carried out under the direct supervision of the Director General of the Gendarmerie nationale, who also serves as the Deputy President of the Joint Control and Verification Commission. Key figures such as the 1st Deputy Police Controller General and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde nationale et nomade du Tchad (GNNT) were also actively involved in overseeing the operation.
Following the intervention, all 252 arrested individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a range of seized objects, including various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.
The comprehensive report on the operation’s success was subsequently presented to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, Army General Ali Ahmat Aghabache.
This significant anti-crime operation underscores the ongoing commitment of N’Djamena’s internal security forces to bolster citizen safety, uphold public order, and vigorously combat all forms of criminal activity, particularly the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances within the capital.
