Norwegian minister’s key visit to Senegal strengthens bilateral ties

Norway’s Minister of International Development, His Excellency Åsmund Aukrust, paid an official visit to Dakar from May 3 to 4, 2026.

The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar hosted a significant diplomatic engagement as Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, conducted an official visit to Senegal. The two-day visit, spanning May 3-4, 2026, served as a pivotal moment to bolster bilateral relations and enhance cooperation between the two nations.


During his stay, the Norwegian minister held high-level discussions with key Senegalese officials, including Cheikh Niang, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad; Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition; Abdourahmane Sarr, Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation; and El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly.


These strategic meetings focused on critical regional challenges, particularly the evolving situation in the Sahel and ongoing security and development dynamics. The conversations also explored global priorities and multilateral initiatives such as ONU80. The visit underscored a shared commitment to deepening collaboration across multiple sectors.

 

The Norwegian delegation commended Senegal’s role as a stable democracy and a crucial partner in advancing regional peace and cooperation.
