Acquired in the summer of 2024 for €26 million, Mason Greenwood is poised to be a central figure in the early stages of this summer’s transfer market. Olympique de Marseille has indicated a willingness to consider offers for its star player, who is reportedly a top target for Gian Piero Gasperini’s AS Roma, especially after their recent qualification for the Champions League on the final day of Serie A.

Having been Marseille’s standout performer over the past two seasons, Mason Greenwood appears to be the primary candidate for a departure as the summer transfer window approaches. It is clear that OM needs to generate funds through player sales, and the 24-year-old winger currently holds the highest market value within the squad, with specialized football valuation site Transfermarkt estimating his worth at €55 million.
“If an opportunity arises, it will certainly be considered”
During his initial public statement, OM‘s newly appointed sporting director, Grégory Lorenzi, inevitably faced questions regarding Greenwood‘s future. For those who harbored doubts, it now seems certain that the English player is indeed nearing a move away from the club. “He is one of the players who is subject to significant deliberation. If an opportunity arises, it will certainly be considered,” Lorenzi stated. He further added, “However, there is the club’s position, the player’s position, and it is also up to us to manage it internally and find the best possible solution for all parties involved.”
OM’s firm stance halts Roma’s initial approach
But where might he go? In recent days, the Italian media has extensively covered the strong interest from AS Roma, whose management is keen to secure a major signing for Gian Piero Gasperini following their Champions League qualification. La Gazzetta dello Sport notably disclosed that the father of the OM star is already in discussions with the Italian club. However, an agreement does not appear imminent at this time. This is because, according to TMW, a chill has been cast over the Mason Greenwood transfer, with OM reportedly demanding a minimum of €50 million and having already informed the Roman club of their firm intention not to negotiate this sum downwards.
