Ousmane Sonko announces no Pastef ministers in new Senegalese government

Ousmane Sonko, the influential President of the National Assembly and leader of the Pastef party, recently declared that no ministers from his political movement would be appointed to the incoming government. This announcement, shared via his social media platforms, has intensified public anticipation across Senegal as citizens eagerly await the official unveiling of the new governmental lineup.
Just hours before the highly anticipated reveal of Senegal’s new cabinet, Ousmane Sonko, who also heads the Pastef party, released a concise yet impactful statement on his social media channels.
His message simply stated: « Pas de ministres venant du Pastef » (No ministers coming from Pastef), offering no further elaboration at the time.
Anticipation surrounding the government announcement
This declaration emerges amidst widespread expectation regarding the composition of the government led by Prime Minister Ahmadou Al-Aminou Lô. Prime Minister Lô was appointed on May 25 by President Bassirou Diomaye-Faye, and the nation has since been on tenterhooks for the full list of ministerial appointments.
Ousmane Sonko’s statement strongly suggests that no members affiliated with the Pastef party are expected to feature in the forthcoming government. However, the Presidency of the Republic and the Prime Minister’s Office have yet to issue any official communication regarding the specific individuals who will form the new team.
While speculation continues to mount concerning the identities of the future ministers, this pronouncement from the Pastef leader provides a significant initial insight into the strategic directions being taken for the government’s formation.
The focus now shifts to the official publication of the government list, which will ultimately clarify the precise implications of Sonko’s announcement and reveal the individuals tasked with steering governmental actions alongside Prime Minister Ahmadou Al-Aminou Lô.
