The prospect of dissolving the National Assembly continues to fuel intense political discussions across Sénégal. During a Pastef gathering held this Saturday in Linguère, Ousmane Sonko unequivocally articulated his stance on this potential development, simultaneously delivering a stern caution to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
According to the prominent Pastef leader, any dissolution of the National Assembly, followed by snap legislative elections, would not benefit the current administration. He confidently asserted that his political movement would emerge as the overwhelming victor in such a contest.
“Should he organize local elections, we will defeat him. If he dissolves the Assembly, that would be even worse for him. In fact, that is precisely what we prefer, for we would beat him decisively,” Sonko declared to his supporters.
Ousmane Sonko went further, speculating on the possibility that the head of state could face significant political weakening in the aftermath of a potential electoral setback.
“After that, I even fear he might throw in the towel before 2029,” he added.

Beyond the electoral outlook, the Pastef president also appealed to his militants for vigilance and restraint. He implored them not to succumb to any potential provocations.
Ousmane Sonko believes that certain political actors are actively seeking to incite reactions from his party’s supporters, aiming to justify punitive measures against Pastef.
“I call upon everyone to be vigilant and maintain calm. They are currently looking for ways to provoke Pastef so that young people react, allowing them to dissolve the party and revoke its official recognition,” he affirmed.
For the Pastef leader, if his supporters successfully sidestep provocations and remain unified, the upcoming electoral contests could easily swing in favor of his movement, which he characterized as a “mere walk in the park.”
