The private residence of Ousmane Sonko in Cité Keur Gorgui transformed into a bustling political nerve center on Friday, May 15, 2026. With less than three weeks remaining until PASTEF’s inaugural national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026, the leader of the Patriots convened a crucial strategic gathering of his high command. Key figures from both the government and the party were present, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé. This closed-door conclave had a clear objective: to ignite a comprehensive mobilization and to consolidate the party apparatus around its core leadership in anticipation of this pivotal moment.
Discussions during the meeting primarily focused on the extensive restructuring of the ruling party, alongside the logistical and political planning for the upcoming congress. While Diamniadio is widely anticipated to host the event, the true significance lies in the strategic maneuvers unfolding behind the scenes. Ousmane Sonko aims to formalize internal realignments initiated in April, which saw the appointment of four vice-presidents and the strategic repositioning of long-standing loyalists. The Prime Minister seeks to forge a more transparent and disciplined structure, one capable of robustly supporting government initiatives, particularly in addressing the nation’s pressing economic challenges.
To underscore this new phase of grassroots outreach, Ousmane Sonko imparted a clear directive to his lieutenants using a powerful Wolof expression: « Yokk thiéré doli gnekh » (increase the quantity and add more sauce). This metaphor calls for a massive intensification of the movement’s momentum. The new mandate is to penetrate every corner of Senegal, including the most remote areas, to reinvigorate the militant base. Following the meeting, El Malick Ndiaye expressed profound optimism on social media, speaking of “promising prospects under the banner of sovereignty,” indicating that PASTEF is preparing an unprecedented demonstration of political strength since assuming power.
