Ligue des champions : débordements dans Paris et près de 300 interpellations suite à la victoire du PSG

Nearly 300 individuals were apprehended in Paris following the widespread disturbances and confrontations with law enforcement that marred the capital’s celebration of PSG’s Champions League triumph on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

“While there were festive gatherings, they were unfortunately marred by a series of disturbances, a scenario we had anticipated and prepared for,” stated Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez during a press briefing held around 1:30 AM on Sunday. He confirmed a total of “416 arrests nationwide, with 283 occurring within the Parisian metropolitan area alone.”

The Minister emphatically declared, “These acts of disorder are utterly unacceptable.”

Nuñez also reported that seven police officers sustained injuries, with one officer in Agen suffering a severe head trauma. Incidents of unrest, including looting, were recorded in approximately fifteen cities across the country, notably in Rennes, Strasbourg, Clermont-Ferrand, and Grenoble.

In Reims, Mayor Arnaud Robinet conveyed via Facebook that there had been “a few arrests” in his city.

Earlier, the Paris Police Prefecture (PP) announced the confiscation of 24 flares and approximately one hundred fireworks mortars. Six vehicles and two businesses, a bakery and a restaurant near Porte de Saint-Cloud, suffered damage. Further south, I witnessed a continuous barrage of fireworks and young people scaling a fire truck.

The Minister further detailed, “Four attempts to block the périphérique were met with extremely swift police intervention, systematically resolving the situations.”

Projectiles were also aimed at law enforcement personnel near the Avenue des Champs-Elysées, where between 4,000 and 5,000 individuals had gathered during the match, with thousands more converging there after the final whistle, according to the PP.

In the 8th arrondissement, individuals attempted to assault a police station before being dispersed.

A police source confirmed that one person sustained a knife injury in Barbès, and an intoxicated man fell into the Seine in the 5th arrondissement.

Near Parc des Princes, around 150 individuals “attempted to breach an entrance gate” to the stadium. However, a police maneuver successfully repelled them, restoring calm “moments later.”

Subsequently, clashes erupted between police and supporters at Porte de Saint-Cloud, adjacent to the Parc. Fireworks mortars were launched at officers, who responded with tear gas.

The prefecture emphasized that it had “meticulously prepared the security arrangements for the Champions League final,” as well as for other concurrent events in the capital, including a rugby match, the ongoing Roland-Garros tennis tournament, and several concerts, such as Aya Nakamura at Stade de France and rapper Damso at Paris La Défense Arena.

Public transport halted

With 22,000 police and gendarmes deployed, including 8,000 specifically for Paris and its surrounding areas, an extraordinary security operation had been put in place.

The PP had previously affirmed, “Our responsibility is to ensure a popular, peaceful, and fully secure celebration for everyone,” reiterating directives for “responsiveness, commitment, and firmness.”

Numerous public transport services were suspended. IDF Mobilité announced on its X account that “due to the very large gatherings, the network is heavily impacted with many lines halted to ensure the safety of passengers and drivers.”

Last year, 5,400 police and gendarmes were deployed in Paris and its agglomeration, resulting in a total of 563 arrests (491 in Paris) and 307 detentions (202 in Paris).

The players are scheduled to participate in a parade on Sunday afternoon at Champs-de-Mars (15th arrondissement), where nearly 100,000 people are anticipated, before being received by President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace.
