Yankhoba Diémé and key ministers depart Pastef to back President Diomaye
A notable shake-up in the Senegalese political landscape has unfolded as three government ministers, including Yankhoba Diémé, have declared their decision to leave Pastef and officially back President Diomaye. Diémé sharply criticized Ousmane Sonko’s former party, labeling it an “empty shell” and highlighting a significant political realignment.
Ministers Ibrahima Sy, Yankhoba Diémé, and Alioune Dione have unequivocally severed ties with Pastef. These influential figures, who were once active members and close allies of Ousmane Sonko before his departure from the prime minister’s office, have now clearly defined their new political direction.
Their choice was made without hesitation. Despite their history as fierce opponents of Macky Sall and staunch supporters of Ousmane Sonko’s cause in previous years, they have now opted for a path that prioritizes “the Republic” over what they characterize as individual interests.
“There is nothing left of Pastef. It has now become an empty shell,” asserted Yankhoba Diémé, who previously held the position of Pastef’s departmental coordinator in Bignona, delivering a pointed critique. Reinforcing this sentiment, Alioune Dione, a former political leader for Pastef in Diourbel, stated, “I, along with all my colleagues, commit to adhering to and joining President Diomaye’s party.”
