Rabat hosts celebration of 65 years of Morocco-Vietnam diplomatic ties

A day-long celebration marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Vietnam took place Friday in Rabat, organized by the Vietnamese embassy in partnership with the High Commission for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army.

As part of the event, a themed exhibition titled “President Ho Chi Minh – Symbol of Peace and International Friendship” was inaugurated. The exhibition, running until June 26, highlights the journey of Vietnam’s national liberation hero, whose actions were guided by ideals of peace, independence, and cooperation between nations.

The celebration, also organized with the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association and the Ho Chi Minh Commemorative Site attached to Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, featured a seminar on opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in diplomatic, economic, academic, cultural, and human fields.

In his opening address, Mustapha El Ktiri, High Commissioner for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army, underscored the historic and strategic importance of Morocco-Vietnam relations. He said the celebration “embodies the meeting of two peoples whose historical paths, forged through hardship and guided by the same ideal of freedom, converge in a community of values and destiny.”

El Ktiri, who also chairs the Morocco-Vietnam Friendship Association, recalled the inauguration in 2022 in Kénitra of the Gate of Vietnam, which mirrors the Gate of Morocco in Bà Vi — twin monuments that span continents and generations.

Vietnamese Ambassador Le Kim Quy highlighted the positive, concrete evolution of bilateral ties, noting an increase in high-level meetings and visits in recent years, reflecting mutual trust and a shared will to strengthen the strategic partnership.

The economic dimension has also seen remarkable growth, with trade volume reaching $390 million in 2025, the ambassador noted. She added that this virtuous dynamic extends to education, cultural and human exchanges, as well as decentralized cooperation between local authorities in both countries.

The celebration also included the inauguration of the Ho Chi Minh Library, which holds books in French, English, and Arabic donated by the Vietnamese leader’s commemorative site to the High Commission for former resistance fighters and former members of the liberation army.
