With the 138th edition of the Popenguine Marian Pilgrimage just around the corner, Sénégal‘s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko paid a courtesy visit to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Victoires in Dakar.
He was warmly received by Monseigneur André Guèye, the Archbishop of Dakar, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and institutional harmony. The Prime Minister arrived accompanied by Marie Rose Faye, the government spokesperson, and Béatrice Germaine Faye, a member of parliament.
Key discussions during the meeting
The high-level discussion centered on fostering social cohesion, strengthening national unity, and promoting interfaith dialogue—especially in light of the upcoming religious gathering in Popenguine.
Ousmane Sonko underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to the principles of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and national solidarity, which have long defined Sénégal’s social fabric. He also praised the invaluable contributions of religious leaders in maintaining social stability and national cohesion.
In response, Monseigneur André Guèye expressed his satisfaction with the visit and offered prayers for national harmony, peace, and the successful implementation of development initiatives across the country.
