This Wednesday night’s contest holds immense significance, as it could crown Paris Saint-Germain as Ligue 1 champions for an impressive fourteenth time. Luis Enrique’s squad travels to Lens, aiming to secure the coveted title well before the season’s final matchday. A decisive victory here would also provide a significant morale boost and conclude domestic suspense ahead of their UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30th.
Regrettably for Ligue 1+ subscribers, coverage of this clash between the Parisians and Lens will instead be exclusively available on beIN Sports.
Initial broadcast rights held by beIN Sports
The high-stakes encounter, pitting the league leaders against their closest rivals, was originally slated for Saturday, April 11th, at 5:15 PM. This particular time slot is contractually allocated to beIN Sports for its Ligue 1 broadcasts throughout the current season. Paris Saint-Germain, facing a demanding schedule with UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixtures against Liverpool on April 8th and 14th, requested a postponement. Their packed calendar involved three matches, two of which were away, all within a single week.
Despite initial objections from RC Lens regarding the fixture’s relocation, the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionnel) ultimately ruled in favor of PSG, rescheduling the match to this Wednesday, May 13th. Crucially, even with the revised date, the Qatari broadcaster retained its exclusive rights to air the fixture, as initially agreed upon.
Should PSG emerge victorious at Stade Bollaert this Wednesday evening, they will officially celebrate their fourteenth league championship. If not, their title celebrations would be deferred until the subsequent matchday against Paris FC, while Lens is set to compete against Lyon. However, with a commanding six-point lead already established, the suspense surrounding PSG’s eventual triumph is minimal.
