Algeria and Chad strengthen infrastructure ties with new agreement

Algeria and Chad have formalized a new agreement in N’Djamena to fast-track infrastructure and public works projects, including the trans-Saharan highway initiative. The deal, signed during a working visit by the Algerian delegation, aims to deepen bilateral cooperation and expedite commitments made in April.

Key developments in Algeria-Chad infrastructure collaboration

The memorandum was signed by Abdelkader Djellaoui, Algeria’s Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, and Amir Idriss Kourda, Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Road Unblocking, and Maintenance. The signing took place during a coordination meeting in N’Djamena, the second day of the Algerian delegation’s visit to Chad.

Attendees included high-level representatives such as the Director-General of Algeria’s Agency for International Cooperation in Solidarity and Development, the Algerian Ambassador to Chad, executives from the Cosider Group and Algeria’s National Company for Public Works (SNTP). On the Chadian side, the Minister Delegate for Infrastructure and senior officials also participated.

Progress on trans-Saharan highway and bilateral projects

Chad’s Infrastructure Minister highlighted the rapid momentum in implementing bilateral agreements, citing significant advancements since the April 22 accords were signed in Algiers. Key milestones include reciprocal technical visits and the initiation of feasibility studies for the trans-Saharan highway, which will traverse Chadian territory.
